Mobile workshop

This photo from the PROV files has been dated by them about 1920. It is taken right outside the door of 2 road at the NW corner of east block. That is the Clocktower building on the right.

The info on the card it is mounted on says WW1 mobile workshops. This could easily be assumed it was part of the war effort and was shipped overseas. So the date could be quite a few years earlier.

There has been quite a lot of information and photos published about the production at Newport during the second world war, but very little about production during the first world war. If you have any information (or photos) about Newport’s contribution to the First World War effort, please share it with us.
