After taking a detailed look at East Block over the last few weeks, we are now going to take a look at the overall Newport Railway Workshops site in the early days. This old black and white photo from PROV was taken in the early part of the 20th Century. It shows no houses along Champion Road, and only a smattering of small farms over on the other side of the Geelong line on the West side of the site. In the distance, you can see what we believe to be Mason Street, Newport. In those days Newport was on the outskirts of Melbourne.
