Following last Friday’s theme of aerial photos of Newport, here is another aerial photo that was taken in 1951. It is interesting to see how large Newport was at that time. On the East side it stretched right up to Power Street, then up to Melbourne Road. The Williamstown line ran right through the Workshop site. On the West side, it extended over the old Newport TAFE site right up to the Geelong line. If you zoom in you will see an incredible amount of detail in this photograph.

As a comparison, the second photo shows how much smaller Newport is today.

The Heritage Listed part of Newport (H1000) built in the 1880s and used by the Victorian Railways right up to the 1980s, needs to be kept for heritage rail use and designated as a heritage rail precinct. by the Government.
